Expatriate Non-native English-speaking Teachers’ Challenges and Coping Strategies in the Turkish EFL Classroom: A Qualitative Study

The global demand for teachers of English has led to an escalation in the number non-native speakers traveling overseas teach English. Although teaching abroad is typically associated with native English-speaking hailing from inner-circle countries, it also become commonplace see expatriate being hired. Yet, studies probing into teachers’ experiences have been sparse, particularly context Turkey. This study endeavors explore challenges and coping strategies who worked private schools language programs To collect data, semi-structured interviews were conducted, analysis revealed that faced several obstacles, including linguistic, cultural, pedagogical challenges. Nevertheless, they managed surmount these obstacles by acquiring proficiency local language, fostering intercultural awareness, acquainting themselves education system. In light findings relevant literature, suggestions implications are discussed potential intending work Turkey other stakeholders.
